Learn How to Use the AutoArchive Feature in Outlook

Just as various papers and documents can pile up quickly on your desk, mails and other pieces of information can quickly collect in your Microsoft Outlook mailbox. You may sort out the papers and documents by filing them in various folders and getting rid of those that you no longer need. You can do more or less the same thing with various items stored in Microsoft Outlook. Outlook allows you to manually move old items like mails and contact information to a storage file called the archive. On the other hand, you could also use the more powerful AutoArchive feature to automatically move items to a storage file once they are past a certain age. Occasionally these archives get corrupted due to hard disk failures and need to be restored using a tool such as Advanced Outlook Repair that can carry out an efficient PST repair.

There are two main steps to enabling the AutoArchive feature. First you need to turn on the AutoArchive feature. Having done so, you can now specify the particular folders that you would like archived automatically and also set the various properties for each folder. For example, at the folder level, you could not only specify the items that you would like archived but also how frequently they are to be archived. Once you have configured the various settings, you have finished enabling the AutoArchive settings. Now, every time you start Outlook, the AutoArchive feature will run automatically. This means that the software will quickly run through all the items to check if they are past the date you had specified for them and moves all old items to the archive.

The AutoArchive feature is thus an excellent tool that keeps only a limited number of items in the current file and allows for Outlook to work more efficiently. However, if the archive file were to get damaged, then only software such as Advanced Outlook Repair can help you carry out a prompt PST repair.

First of all, you should remember that many folders are already set up with the AutoArchive feature ' folders like the Sent Items folder, Deleted Items folder, Calendar folder, Tasks folder and Journal folder. On the other hand, the Inbox, Drafts and the Notes folders do not have the AutoArchive feature enabled for them automatically and you will need to do so if you would like old items from these folders to be stored. Finally, the Contacts folder does not have an archive property and hence you cannot enable the AutoArchive feature for this folder.

The AutoArchive feature helps you to store old but important items while at the same time making room to store newer items. Powerful recovery tools such as Advanced Outlook Repair can help with PST repair so that all the items stay safe and secure.
